Willows Social Club opens in style
On a glorious sunny day in June, Paul Baker of Towergate Bakers cut the ribbon and officially declared open the new Social Club at Willows Riverside Park at Windsor.
A group of pro-active residents decided to get together to renovate an unused building on the park to turn it into a new social club –a challenging task carried out with the full backing and support of the Park owners – The Haulfryn Group.
The Social Club will be the focus of community activity on the park ideally accessible to all residents. The club features a number of meeting rooms, a kitchen, a small library with books donated by residents and a larger room to host quizzes, computer classes, talks, afternoon teas, bingo, arts & crafts, keep fit, etc.
Paul Baker was invited to open the club as Towergate Bakers of which Paul is Managing Director made a donation towards the re-furbishment and the company also insures many residents on the park.
A large number of residents attending the opening enjoyed a variety of games and a superb cream tea! The club has been decorated and furnished to a very high standard and the residents, especially the club committee, are to be congratulated on a superb achievement.
It was an ideal opportunity for Paul Baker of Towergate Bakers to meet and chat to residents and needless to say the cost of insurance was a popular subject! The park enjoys a fantastic position on the banks of the River Thames which in the eyes of insurance companies represents somewhat of a flood risk – hence the increasing cost of insurance on the park. Nevertheless, despite a number of flood incidents in recent years, no homes on the park have been damaged. In addition, the construction of the new ‘Jubilee River’ flood prevention scheme for Windsor, which cost nearly £100m, should reduce the risk of future flooding.
Paul Baker assured residents he would further investigate these flooding issues and their impact on Residents’ insurance.
