Bakers was founded in 1969 by John Baker who was responsible for designing and launching the very first bespoke insurance policy for residential mobile (now park) homes. The company became part of the Towergate Underwriting Group in 1999 and today remains the leading park home insurer in the UK insuring some 20000 park homes. John’s son Paul remains actively involved in the business focussing on the Park Home side of the business, indeed it was Paul’s idea to launch the Park Home Owners’ Club in 2008.
Over the years Bakers has established a reputation for offering a top quality product and above all an excellent level of customer service, nothing has changed and regular surveys carried out by Bakers confirm very high levels of satisfaction – particularly when it comes to the handling and settlement of claims.
Bakers are proud that they take a pro-active involvement in the Park Home industry, in particular promoting good practice and supporting park home residents. They sponsor the Independent Park Home Advisory Service (IPHAS), one of the leading national park home residents’ associations, in 1996 they launched the ‘Park Owner of the Year’ competition to highlight and reward excellence within the industry, the competition has recently been re named ‘Park of the Year’ to acknowledge the part played by resident’s themselves in improving the quality of life for their fellow residents. They attend the annual National Park Home Show, are members of the National Park Homes Council and the Guild of Park Home Services. And they actively support many individual residents groups by offering financial support to encourage and enable residents to enjoy special events, outings and communal activities.
As well as insuring Park Homes Bakers also offer bespoke insurance for Leisure Homes and Lodges, Static Holiday Homes, Touring Caravans and Trailer Tents. And for those park homes owners contemplating a move into managed or sheltered accommodation Bakers offer a retired persons ‘smaller homes’ contents insurance policy which is just the ticket for people requiring small amounts of contents insurance.
